Dear Mr. Miller:
Enclosed is a copy of the final exercise report for the June 19 and 20,1996, full-participation plume exposure and ingestion pathway exercise of the offsite radiological emergency response plans site-specific to the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Station (MYNPS). The State of Maine, Lincoln and Sagadahoc County and the towns of Alna, Boothbay, Boothbay liarbor, Dresden, Edgecomb, Newcastle, Westport, South Bristol, Southport, Wiscasset, Arrowsic, Bath, Georgetown, Phippsburg, West Bath, and Woolwich participated in this exercise. The final exercise report was prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region I staff. Copies of this report will be provided to the State of Maine.
There was one Deficiency and 20 Areas Requiring Corrective Actions (ARCAs) identified as a result of this exercise. Subsequently, this Deficiency and six related ARCAs were corrected during a remedial exercise conducted on September 4,1996. The FEMA Region I Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) staff will work with the State of Maine to correct the remaining outstanding ARCAs.
Based on the results of the June 19 and 20,1996, exercise, the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness for the State of Maine and the affected local jurisdictions, site-specific to the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Station, can be implemented and are adequate to provide reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken offsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the site.
