Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. D. E. Hills,
R. D. Lanksbury, and G. F. O'Dwyer of this office on May 11 through June 21,
1985, of activities at Perry Nuclear Power Plant authorized by NRC Construction
Pennit No. DPPR-148 and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. M. D. Lyster
and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in non-
compliance with NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Appendix.
With respect to item 2 the inspection showed that action had been taken to
correct the identified noncompliance and to prevent recurrence. Consequently,
no reply to this item of noncompliance is required and we have no further
questions regarding this matter at this time.
Regarding the remaining item, a written response is required.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Corrmission's regulations, a copy
of this letter, the enclosures, and your response wil be placed in the
NRC's Public Document Room.
The responses directed by this letter (and the accompanying Notice) are not
subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget
as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
