Dear Mr. Beckham:

By letter dated June 15, 1984, you responded to our Generic Letter 84-11, describing your piping inspection / replacement plans for Hatch Units 1 and 2.

The results of our review are as follows:

(1) Hatch Unit 1 The details of the inspection plan for Hatch Unit 11984 refueling outage were provided in your submittal dated May 31, 1984. Our subsequent comments on the subject inspection plan were reflected in your actual inspection plan. GPC completed the piping inspection scheduled for the 1984 refueling outage. We reviewed your submittals of inspection results and repairs and concluded that the inspection and repairs performed at Hatch Unit 1 plant during the Fall 1984 outages met the guidelines in Generic Letter 84-11 and the plant could be safely returned to operation for one fuel cycle of 18 months.

(2) Hatch Unit 2 GPC's inspection / replacement plan for Hatch Unit 2 stainless steel piping during 1984 refueling outage meets the guidelines in' Generic Letter 84-11 and therefore, is acceptable. The piping inspection / replacement activity at Hatch Unit 2 was completed, and the plant returned to power on September 4, 1984.

(3)

Future Piping Inspection At this time, we are not ready to comment on your proposed scope and schedule of future piping inspection of replaced or mitigated piping, I

because detailed guidelines for such inspections will be provided in the soon to be issued NUREG-0313, Revision 2.

Sincerely,aca n
