Dear Mr. Ruckelshaus:

I have been looking forward to meeting ever since your appointment as EPA Administrator and would like to do so in the near future to continue the top-level close working relationship between the NRC and EPA in areas of mutual interest that has existed in the past.-

I believe that a meeting at this time would be particularly useful as a vehicle for addressing policy issues that are Issues that we might now before our respective agencies.

find worth reviewing are: -

EPA and NRC respective responsibilities in waste disposal; General EPA and NRC responsibilities in setting radiation standards and implementing them; and

-- Possible need for a revised memorandum of understanding between EPA and NRC.

Our two staffs are working prior to our meeting to try to highlight specific areas where policy decisions are needed.

I will be touch with you soon to arrange the meeting.

Sincerely,

_l O
