Youngblood, Chief Licensing Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket Nos. 50-440; 50-441 Unit 1 Progress Update

Dear Mr. Youngblood:

This letter is provided as an update of our progress on Unit 1 of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant for the month of June,1985. We recently announced that fuel load has been shifted from June until September, 1985. A summary of those activities which have occurred since our last update (June 11, 1985) follows.

Construction Construction is about 99% complete. We do not expect any construction related  !

items to impact our fuel load schedule.

Preoperatonal Testing 1

66 of 106 preoperational tests have now been completed in the field and results are undergoing review and approval. The Reactor Recirculation (B33) test has been completed in the field and, following the data reduction process, should be approved this month. The Division 1 & 2 diesel generators have been turned over to the Perry Plant Operations Department. The Structural Integrity and Integrated Leak Rate Tests are scheduled to begin next week. Our preoperation-al test program is progressing as shown on Figure 1.

Licensing SER Issue resolution is progressing well. Information to close outstanding Issue 8 - Mark III Containment System (Humphrey) Issues was transmitted to NRC on June 24, 1985. This leaves only four (4) Outstanding Issues remaining open.

We expect to submit information to resolve all of the Outstanding Issues by August 15, 1985. Fifteen (15) Confirmatory issues remain open. Five (5) of these are awaiting NRC site visits for closeout. Information has been provided by CEI to close all of these confirmatory issues.
