Subject: NRC:RI Inspection 50-309/85-09
This transmits the April 14 - May 25, 1985 resident inspection findings by Mr.
-
C. Holden and Region based inspectors of the Maine Yankee Atomic Power' Station,
Wiscasset, Maine. Those findings were based on observation of activities, inter-
views, independent measurements, and document reviews, and have been discussed
with Mr. Garrity of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, although no violations were observed, prob-
lems Wre noted in the identification of containment integrity valves and the
tagging of a containment boundary valve during maintenance.
Both problems appear
to be administrative in nature.
Since the potential for breaching containment
integrity er.ists, added attention is warranted in this area.
On April 14, 1985, Maine Yankee achieved the 60 billion kilowatt-hour production
mark in a consistently safe fashion. We anticipate your continued performance in
this safe manner.
