GESSAR As'.vou know, the Comission has approved the Severe Accident Policy Stdtement by notation vote, with minor comments. Therein, the Comission has established the following policy for new designs:

"The Comission believes that a new design for a nuclear power plant (as well as a proposed custom plant) can be shown to be acceptable for severe accident concerns if it meets the following criteria and procedural requirements [among others]:

a. " Demonstration of compliance with the procedural

, requirenents and criteria of the current Commission regulations, including the Three Mile Island i requirements for new plants as reflected in the CP Rule [10 CFR 50.34(f)];

b. Demonstration of technical resolution of all applicable Unresolved Safety Issues and the medium-and high-priority Generic Safety Issues, including a special focus on assu' ring the reliability of decay heat removal systems and the reliability of both AC and DC electrical supply systems..."

I would appreciate a brief description of how GESSAR has demonstrated: (a) corpliance with i 50.44(c)(3)(iv) and (b) technical resolution of USI's A-47, A-46, A-45, A-44 and A-17.
