MEMORANDUM FOR: Ross Chappell, Chiaf Packaging Certification Section, SFP0 FROM: Bernard White, Nuclear Engineer, Packaging Certification Section, SFP0
SUBJECT:
MEETING
SUMMARY
CONCERNING MODIFICATION OF THE RCC PACKAGE Attendees:
NE Framatome Coaema Fuels Bernard White Kathryn Knapp Don Marksberry Gayle Elliott Ross Chappell Oscar Pacheco Li Yang Bryan Palmer Susan Shankman Michael Frankle Nancy Osgood Introduction A meeting was held at the request of Framatome Cogema Fuels Inc. (FCF) at Rockville, Maryland on August 20, 1996, concerning purchase and modifications of exist'ing RCC packagings.
Discussion
- 1. FCF has bought several RCC packagings fabricated to a previous revision to the Certificate of Compliance. FCF has proposed modifying the containers to conform to Westinghouse's MCC package design, with one exception being the location of the upper end gate. The end gate will extend be four inches farther toward the top of the package to accommodate longer fuel assembly designs. Discussion surrounded the effects of the hypothetical accident conditions on the package due to the reduction in available crush distance between the package top and the end gate.
- 2. FCF discussed their proposed response to outstanding questions on the Model No. DHTF package. The proposed response will not contain new analyses, only clarifying information to answer the NRC questions. (
