This letter refers to the physical security inspection conducted by Mr. G. C. Smith of this office
on January 25-28, 1993, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-50 at Three _ Mile
Island (TMI) Unit 1, Middletown, Pennsylvania and to the discussions of findings held with;
Mr. M. Ross and other members of your staff by Mr. Smith at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are important to public health and safety:and are
described in the NRC Region I inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. LWithin -
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures'and representative -
records, interviews with personnel and observations by the inspector.
We found that the physical security program being implemented at TMI was directed toward th'e
,
protection of public health and safety. Within the scope of this inspection, no safety concerns--
or violations of regulatory requirements weie' identified.-
