Docket No. 50-282
Docket No. 50-306
Northern States Power Company
ATTN:
Mr. C. E. Larson
Vice President, Nuclear
Generation
414 Nicollet Mall
Minneapolis, MN 55401
Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Ms. P. L. Eng and
Mr. W. G. Guldemond of this office on June 10 through June 20, 1985, of
activities at Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 & 2, authorized
by NRC Operating License Nos. DPR-42 and DPR-60 and to the discussion of our
findings with Mr. D. J. Mendele and others of your staff at the conclusion of
the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in
noncompliance with NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Appendix.
With respect to item 1.a the inspection showed that action had been taken to
correct the identified noncompliance and to prevent recurrence. Consequently,
no reply to this item of noncompliance is required and we have no further
questions regarding this matter at this time.
Regarding the remaining items, a written response is required.
It was noted that members of your staff were extremely cooperative and
responsive to the concerns and deficiencies identified. Our staff was
impressed with the immediate interim corrective measures implemented by your
staff prior to the exit interview.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
this letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
