Vendor Interface for Safety-Related Components,' for Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos.1 and 2," May 13,1991 Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is to provide additionalinformation requested by the NRC letter dated May 13,1991 (Reference 3) concerning CP&L's NRC Generic Letter 90-03 Response (Reference 2). That letter ir dicated the Staff had reviewed CP&L's response to Generic Letter 90 03 and found it acceptable. Carolina Power & Light Company was also requested to inform NRC when the actions required to upgrade the vendor interface program to comply with the Generic Letter requirements are implemented for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP).
Carolina Power & Light Company has completed modification and enhancement of the BSEP vendor interface program for safety-related components, implementation of the enhanced BSEP vendor interface program has begun, resulting in the strengthening of the document control system which previously existed between the NSSS vendor and BSEP, to provide a method of assuring receipt of technical information concerning safety-related components within the NSSS scope of supply.
Vendor contacts have been initiated with vendors of other safety-related components. A control process has been initiated to incorporate and update pertinent information covered by this program as it is obtained. Vendors of safety-related components for BSEP will be contacted within a three-year period, and these vendors will be re-contacted on a recurring, three-year cycle. Future vendors of safety-related components for BSEP will be included in this program as they are added to the vendors list.
