PROMPT RELIEF TRIP SYSTEM (PRT) i j

The two primary concerns of the sit.CS Branch expressed to the i

applicant on our April 4. 197411) letter and to General Electric during our telephone conference on April 2S,1974 remain unresolved.

The applicant's response of May 13,1974(2) to our letter of l

April 4.1974 states that they consider the present design t

satisfactory and plan no changes to:

I a) minimize the possibility of inadvertent actuation of nore than one safety / relief valves and, 1

4 b) provide testability of the PRT system in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.22.

This is in contrast to the understanding we reached during a telephone conference with General Electric representatives on April 25.1974.

During that telephone conference. Jack Bensen I

of General Electric made the comitment to provide design j

changes aimed at satisfying our two aforementioned concerns.

I It is recommended that the applicant be advised that we will uire l

these design changes and we will expect to rtview them, along th l

other pRT features, before PRT can be approved for installation in Honticello.
