Dear Mr. Antony:
This refers to routine safety inspection conducted by
Mr. T.
Reidinger, and Mr. K.
Salehi of this office on
January 11 - 22, 1993.
The inspection' included a review of
activities authorized for your Prairie Island Nuclear Generating
Plant.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were
discussed with members of your staff identified in the enclosed
report.
The purpose of the inspection was to determine if design changes
and modifications met regulatory requirements and to evaluate the
effectiveness of the engineering organization in supporting other
plant departments.
The specific areas examined are identified in the report.
Within
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of
procedures, representative records, observations, and interviews
with personnel.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during this
inspection.
However, the inspectors identified an unresolved
item concerning backward installation of several safety-related
valves.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations,
a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be
placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
