Dear Mr. Twvesons In my letter to you dated January 21, 1970, I stated that I would keep you informed of significant developments in eenmeetion with our review of the Northern States power Company's appliestion for an AEC provisional operating license for its Montisello Nuclear Generating Plant.

Accordingly, I requested the Secretary of the Atomic Energy Comunission to transmit to the Minnesota Pollution Centrol Agency a copy of the notice of hearing on this application which was issued on March 9,1970.

It is my understanding that the notice of hearing was dispatched to the Agency on March 11, 1970 The notice provides for a public hearing on the application in Buffalo, Minnesota, en April 28, 1970, and a p ehearing conference on April 7,1970, ateo in Suffalo, Minnesota..

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the AEC regulatory staff's safety Evaluation of the Northern States Power Company's application. This docust. reflects the AEC regulatory staff's conclusions with respect to its review of the application.

I am also transmitting a copy of the enclosure to Governor LeVander.
