t WASHINoTON. D. C. 20S$5 January 28, 1993 Docket No. 50-395 Mr. John L. Skolds Vice President, Nuclear Operations South Carolina Electric & Gas Company Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station P.O. Box 88 Jenkinsville, South Carolina 29065
Dear Mr. Skolds:
SUBJECT:
REVIEW 0F CORRECTIVE ACTIONS FOR ANOMALIES IDENTIFIED IN INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM - VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT No. 1 (TAC NO. M83397)
By letter dated October 16, 1991, the staff issued its Safety Evaluation Report (SER) on your Inservice Testing Program (IST).
The conclusion of this SER was that your IST would be acceptable once certain anomalies were addressed.
By letter dated April 16, 1992, you submitted a supplementary response that addressed these anomalies.
The staff has reviewed your response and has concluded that your actions resolve the anomalies with the following exceptions:
(1) Anomaly No. 1 - A new or revised relief request with additional basis for staff review is needed if the proposed modification to increase the accuracy of the calculated pump flow rate will not meet the accuracy requirements of Table IWP-4110-1.
(2) Anomaly No. 8 - Since you have indicated that valve XVC-8046 is passive, but will be infrequently used, you should review this classification against IWV-2100(b).
If the valve is classified as passive, you should verify its closure following any actuation of the valve.
(3) Anomaly No.17 - Since IWV-3410 applies to Category B valves, your response conflicts with page 27 of 34 of ISI Valve Test list, GTP 302, Revision 4, which shows the valves in question to be Category C.
You should address this anomaly in the next 10-year update.
