Docket No. 50-368 Mr. John M. Griffin Senior Vice President Energy Supply Arkansas Power & Light Company P. O. Box 551 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203
Dear Mr. Griffin:
SUBJECT:
INSERVICE TESTING (IST) PROGRAM FOR ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2 (ANO-2)
By letter dated June 15, 1978, as supplemented by letters dated October 29, 1980 and December 10, 1982, you submitted an IST program for AN0-2 and requested relief frcm certain requirements of Section XI of the ASME Code pursuant to 10CFR50.55a(g)..
On September 21, 1979, we issued an interim relief based on our preliminary review of your June 15, 1978 submittal pending our detailed review. We have now. completed our detailed review of your submittal and our findings with respect to the requests for relief are provided in the enclosed Safety Evaluation (SE). Based on the results of this review, we have determined that all'the relief requests except one request pertaining to stroke timing of the emergency feedwater pump turbine governor. valve should be granted.
Additionally, we have determined that the scope of the AN0-2 IST program should be expanded to include certain safety related pumps and valves in the diesel generator auxiliary systems.
It is requested that your response addressing this subject be submitted within 60 days of the date of this letter.
In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g), the relief granted, as delineated in the enclosed SE, supersedes the interim relief and expires on March 25, 1990, i
which is 10 years following the date of commercial operation of ANO-2.
If, during your continued implementation of the program or after completing the requested evaluation for expanding scope of the program, you determine that additional relief is needed, you should submit a supplemental request for relief and provide justification for your request.
