ATTN:' Mr. R. J. Kelly

Executive Vice President

-P. O. Box 4545

Atlanta, GA 30302

Gentlemen:

SUBJECT: -REPORT NOS. 50-424/85-18 AND 50-425/85-18

This letter refers to the technical meeting held at your request in the NRC

Region II Office on May 1,1985. This meeting concerned activities authorized

by NRC Construction Permit Nos. CPPR-108 and CPPR-109 for the Vogtle facility.

_

The meeting provided Georgia Power Company (GPC) an opportunity to demonstrate

the ability of their ultrasonic examination procedure and equipment to detect,

locate, and size actual crack flaws propagating from the pipe inside diameter in

centrifugally cast stainless steel as discussed in the enclosed report.

It is our opinion that this meeting was informative and beneficial to both NRC

and GPC because of the exchange of information concerning inspection of cast

stainless steel.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure will

be placed in NRC's Public Document Room unless you notify this office by

telephone within 10 days of the date of this letter and submit written applica-

tion to withhold information contained therein within 30 days-of the date of the

letter.

Such application must be consistent with the requirements of

2.790(b)(1).

j

Should you have any questions concerning this matter, we will be pleased to

i

discuss them.

Sincerely,

Virgil L. Brownlee, Chief
