Although public hearings are usually held only at the construction perrcit stage of the licensing process, th'e Com-mission has scheduled this hearing on the operating license 3
l application because of the substantial amount of public inte-l res t in the Monticello plant.
The public hearing to consider the Monticello plant construction permit was held May 25-26, 1967, also at Buffalo.
Information on how members of the public may participate in the proceeding is detailed in the attached notice of hearing.
I The Monticello Nuclear Generating Station, which was built under an AEC construction permit issued in June 1967, is located on a 1325 acre site on the wes t bank of the Missis-sippi River about three miles northwest of Monticello.
The l
plant uses a boiling water reactor and will have a net elec-trical output of approximately 545,400 kilowatts.
General j
Electric Company designed and built the reactor and turbo--
l generator portions of the plant.
