Docket No. 50-362 Report of NPDES Permit Violation San Onof re Nuclear Generating Station Unit 3
Reference:
Letter from H. W. Newton (SCE) to A. L. Coe (California Regional Water Quality Control-Board, San Diego Region),
NPOES Monitoring Report, November 30, 1992 Section 3.2 of Appendix B to Facility License No. NPF-15 for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Unit 3 requires Southern California Edison (SCE) to report violations of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
This letter reports one NPDES violation for Unit 3.
The referenced letter is provided as an enclosure.
During the month of October all sampled water sources were found to be within permit limits with one exception. A release of water with a total suspended solids concentration of 176 occurred on Octcher 2,1992. This exceeded the NPDES permit instantaneous limit of 100 ppm. The_ release was caused by a valving misalignment which resulted in the inadvertent release of water from the Full Flow Condensate Polish Demineralizer to the combined discharge rather than to a holding tank.
Procedural changes-have been made to prevent-recurrence.
If you have any questions, please contact me.

This exceeded the permit's instantaneous maximum concentration limit of 100 ppm.
The release was caused by a valving misalignment which resulted in the inadvertent release of water to the combined diccharge rather than to a holding tank.
