David C. Darby, Associate Professor University of Minnesota, Duluth Division of Science & Mathematics Department of Geology Duluth, Minnesota 55812

Dear Mr. Darby:

Thank you for your letter of August 18, 1971, which requested information on any Atomic Energy Commission regulations which prevent tours of nuclear facilities. There are no AEC regu-lations which prohibit tours of nuclear _facilitiest however, the AEC does expect any licensee conducting tours to take necessary steps to limit atnd control access of tour party members to assure the safety of the tour members as well as

^

to assure continued safe operation of the plant.-

I hope the above information answers your questions regarding tours.

Sincerely, Peter A. Morris, Director Division of Reactor Licensing ces D. F. McElroy Vice President, Engineering Northern States Power Company 414 Nicollet Avenue Minneapolis, Minnesota $5401 Cerald Charnoff Shaw, Pittmau,_Potts, Trowbridge,-
