l I" Northern States Pcver Company Monticello Nuclear GeneratinE Plant, Minnesota HYDRO 140Y The site is located on a bluff on the right bank of the Mississippi River, abeut 4 miles upstream from !&nticello, Minnesota. The reacter grade altituae has been set at 935 feet abcve mean sea level, and critical equipment in the cooling vater intake structure is to be flecdprocfed to a stage of 930 feet. This appears to be well above 4

the maximum probable stage to be expected at the site.

Minimum flov in this reach of the river since abcut 1915 has been about 250 cubic feet per secend, more than an crder cf macnitude nigher than the service water requirement fer safe shutdevn, given as 6000 gallcas per minute (about 13 5 cubic feet per secend).

acottal The analysis of the Geclecy of the Menticelle Nuclear Generatinc 3.:

s

.i{bb plant site presented in Atomic Energy Ccenissica D;chet (50-203 and w _

f3%

, fh supplements) was reviewed and ccmpared with the available literature.

T,-

k..

There are no identifiable ceolegic structures which ceuld be expected g

te localize earthquakes in JKe immediate vicinity cf the plant.

- c,5 :

g h-Locatica of the massive reinfcrced concrete intake structure anchered to bedreck footings between the plan't' and 'the river bank, as shevn' on Figs. 8.1-2 and 8.1-3, should cbviate potential preblems resulting l

from sudden slepe failures or undercutting by the river in that area.
