OUICK-LOOK REPORT O!! LARGE STEEL MCDEL TEST Enclosed, for your information is a report, prepared by Sandia Natienal Laboratories on a test performed during November 7-17, 1984. This is the last in a series of pressure tests on models representative of steel containments. The purpose of the series of experiments was to assess the ability of state-of-the-art computer models to predict local deformations in the vicinity of penetrations and other discontinuities at very high strain levels. A parallel effort is under way to learn how leakage grows for different seal geometries and materials subjected to temperature and aging environments. The overall objective is to develop reliable predictions of containment performance under severe accident conditions.

Comparisons of predicted deformations with those measured during the test are currently being carried out. Further reports will be issued after the data have been evaluated and conclusions drawn abcut the fidelity of the predictive mod s.
