SUBJECT:

STATUS REPORT ON THE MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-263 A meeting was held January 25, 1968, with representatives of Northern States Power Company to discuss current status of construction of the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. A list of attendees is attached.

The items that were discussed were as follows:

1. A second diesel generator for emergency power will be incorporated in the plant design.

2. An independent third-party stress analysis evaluation will be per-formed. This is currently being discussed with three organizations from which one will be selected.

3. The steam-line isolation valve testing will be done as per final resolucion on Jersey Central.

4. The fabrication status of the pressure vessel and planned quality control procedures were described. A preliminary discussion of the causes of the clad overlay micro fissures and corrective procedures was given.

3. Reports of plant construction status and component procurement status were made. Construction appears to be on schedule.

6. A brief description of plant safeguards was given.

7. The Monticello Nuclear Plant organization chart was submitted.

Operator training was discussed.

8. A tentative review schedule for the Operating License was presented.

They expect to submit the FSAR in September 1968.

Note that items 1, 2, and 3, above, refer to the three reservations in the April 13, 1967 ACRS letter.
