SUMMARY

OF UNIT 2 OPERATING EXPERIENCE FOR MAY 1985 5/1 At the beginning of this reporting period, Unit 2 was shutdown while replacing the shaf t seals on 21 A Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP).

5/5 At 1905 the reactor was taken critical.

5/6 The Unit was paralleled at 0252. At 1320 the reactor tripped on low reactor coolant flow when the over current protective relay for 21A RCP motor actuated. Investigation has shown that the relay was overly sensitive to vibration and actuated when the door on which it is mounted was closed.

The reactor was taken critical at 1930 and the unit was paralleled at 2153.

5/7 Resumed full load operation (845 MWe) at 0730.

5/17 Commenced shutdown at 2130 to replace pressurizer spray valve bonnet studs.

5/18 The Unit was removed from the grid at 0225 and the reactor shutdown at 0330.

5/22 At 2140 the reactor was taken critical.

5/23 The Unit was paralleled at 0158 and full load operation (841 MWe) was resumed at 1900.

5/26 Commenced shutdown at 1700 when all emergency diesel generators were declared out of service. At 225011 Diesel Generator was declared operable and assigned to Unit 2 and the shutdown was aborted.

5/27 Resumed full load operation (845 MWe) at 0215.

5/28 Commenced reducing load at 2145 to allow inspection of 22A RCP Bay for reactor coolant leaks.

5/29 At 0230 power was leveled at 1595 (32 MWe). Inspection of 22A RCP Bay revealed a leaking compression fitting on the RCP shaf t middle seat instrument line. The leak was isolated and full power operation (839 MWe) was resumed at 1100.

5/31 At the end of this reporting period, Unit 2 was operating at 833 MWe with the reactor at 100% power.
