Gentlemen:
This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. J. R. Boardman of this office
during the period May 13-17, 1985, of activities authorized by NRC Operating
License DPR-51 and NPF-6 for Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1 and 2, and to the
discussion of our findings with Mr. T. G. Campbell, and other members of your
staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection included Arkansas Nuclear One ma.intenance
program and followup on previously identified items. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector. These
findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report.
Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were
identified.
The NRC inspector was impressed with the changes in the Arkansas Nuclear One
(AN0) maintenance program which have been implemented in the past year. When
AP&L completes projected improvements in this program and completes
identification, evaluation, and utilization of applicable vendor technical
information for maintenance in response to NRC Generic Letter 83-28, AN0 should
have a very good program for maintaining the design basis of a safety-related
structures, systems, and components.
