Dear Dr. Schlesinger:
?
I Although we have not yet had an opportunity to meet, I certainly look forward to meeting with you.
I read your interview in the Minneapolis Tribune last week and was pleased to note that you have expressed an interest and appreciation for our concerns here in Minnesota.
At the monthly Agency meeting yesterday, the Agency Board voted edx to one in l
favor of granting me, as Executive Director, discretionary power to request hearings Cn the suspension question if the Atomic Energy Cocmission does not i
substantially move up drafting of the envirorcental impact state =ent for Monticello, l
and the setting of a date for hearings on the envirormental impact stateacnt. We therefore need to meet with your staff in an effort to resolve these matters well in advance of the January 23, 1972 doadline for requesting-a hearing..
i, I realize that the Co: nission has a very heavy schedule of hearings on var $ous enviro:= ental matters and that we may have some difficulty obtaining a suitable schedule. However, in view of your policies I as hopeful that these matters will be resolved in a manner satisfactory to all of us.
