SECY-84 UCS REQUEST 'I T THE COMMISSION ITSELF CONSIDS CS PETITION FOR SHOW. CAUSE CONCERNING TMI-l EMERGENCY FEEDWATER SYSTEM This is to advise you that the Commission (with Commissioner Gilinsky disapproving) has approved your reconumendation to issue a letter to UCS denying their request that the Commission.
itself rule on the UCS show cause petition.
The letter, as modified by the Commission, has been si,gned and dispatched (Attachment 1).
A Staff Requirements Memorandum directing the starff to address the three categories of information identified in the UCS. letter has also 'been issued (Attachment 2).
The Commission also indicated that it ' believes army statement to the effect that a NRC staff member has been assigned to
" shoot down" a petition is wholly inappropriate and has directed all staff members to f airly evaluate petitions (Attachment 3).
