MONTICELLO NUCIIAR GENERATING PIANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Standby Liquid Control Relief Valve Malfunction A condition occurred at the bbnticello Nuclear, Generating Plant which we are reporting to you" office in accordance with Section 6.6.C.1 of the Technical Specification.s of Provisional Operating License DPR-22.
When tested on August 4, 1972 the relief valve on the "B" Standby Liquid Control System possibly did not lift in the range of 1350-1450 psig as re-quired by Technical Specification 4.4. A.2.c.
The valve did not seem to lift cleanly and the pressure may have reached 1470 psig.
Rather than an immediate retest to clarify the situation, it was decided to inspect the valve.
The relief valve was disassembled and inspected. All components of the valve were found to be in good condition.
No abnormalities were discovered.
The valve was reassembled and tested and found to lift properly at 1420 psig.
It was decided at that time that the valve had probably functioned properly and that it was not a reportable event. The valve was scheduled to be retested within three months.
This event was reviewed at a recent meeting of the bbnticello Safety Audit Committee, and it was the opinion of the Committee that with the uncertainity surrounding this event that it should be reported.
A Significant Operating Event Peport vill be prepared for this occurrence and will be available at the site for the Regulatory Operations Inspector.
