Texas Utilities Electric Company, TonT et al.
(Comanche Peak Steam Electric Stat Units 1 and 2); Docket Nos. 50-445 and 50-4460/__.
. Gentlemen:
Further to Applicants' obligation to keep the Board apprised of matters relating to schedule, this will ' advise that earlier this week Texas Utilities filed a 10-0 Quarterly Report with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which contained the following information:
As previously reported in the Company's Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 1984 (1984 10-K), Tex-La Electric Cooperative of Texas, Inc. (Tex-La), which owns 2-1/6% of Comanche Peak, had failed to make some periodic payments of its portion of the costs of Comanche Peak.
Tex-La has now made the payments which were in arrears, so that all payments which are currently due from it have been made.
Electric Company is constructing two nuclear-fueled units at the Comanche Peak generating station.
In its 1984 10-K, the Company reported in detail on the status of licensing activities relating to the plant and estimated that Unit 1 of Comanche Peak would not be placed in commercial operation before early 1986 8505210030 850517 PDR ADOCK 05000445 0
(.
i and Unit 2 would become operational in mid-1987.
Based on such schedule, the total cost of the plant, including AFUDC, was. estimated to be $4.564 billion of.which Electric Company's share was estimated to be
$3.898 billion, including AFUDC, or $1,930 per kilowatt.
Because of uncertainties in the timing of the licensing process which have arisen, partially as a result of Electric Company's ongoing efforts to address the concerns referred to in the 1984 10-K, commercial operation of Unit 1 of the plant in early 1986 no longer seems achievable.
Until some of these uncertainties, many of which are beyond the control of Electric Company, have been resolved, the Company is unable to estimate the commercial operation date of Unit 1 or to revise the cost estimate for the
' plant.
However, the Company does not expect a delay in the commercial operation date of Unit 1 to be an extended one.
