I This is in response to your letter dated January 21, 1981 to President Reagan regarding the McGuire Nuclear Station.
The McGuire Nuclear Station Unit I was, issued a Fuel Load and Zero Power License in January 1981. The next phase in the startup program l
l for full power operation is low power testing and power ascension.
The earliest licensee (Duke Power Ccapany) schedule for this activity is July 1981 predicated on all required events including testing to occur without delay. Our review supporting a full power operating i
license was completed in mid April 1981.
As you may be anre, the public hearing before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLS) was reopened by the ASLB in response to a motion filed by the intervenor on the basis of new information resulting from the 114I accident. The hearing was reopened in February 1981 and concluded in March. A decision by the ASLB is scheduled for June 1981.
A full power operating license is scheduled to be issued for McGuire Unit 1 in July 198T.
The McGuire Nuclear Station, Unit 2 is projected to receive an operating license in 1982. The above process is not expected to impact the issuance j
of the Unit 2 operating license.
