FINAL 50. 5 5 (e) /,EEPR 21_ REPORT No. U-28 CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 On January 5, 1981 Union Electric company received a letter from General Electric which advised us that fail".res had been exoerier with certain Lexan coil spools. supplied with their HFA type relays.

On January 19, 1981 we received Information Kotice 81-01 which advised the industry of this problem.

Initial investigation at the Callaway site has determined that the suspect Lexan coil spools have been installed in safety-related relays. Although no cracked coil spools were identified, it is our intention to. inspect all Class lE HFA relays and te replace those with black or clear Lexan coil spools regardless of the conditic' of the coil spools. Our schedule for accorplishinc this will be dependent upon the availability of replacement relays from General Electric and working the replacement effort into the normal construc-tion activities.
