Dear Mr. Collins:

This-letter is a Statement of Intent required by 10 CFR 30.35 in connection with our application for amendment to the above-cited special nuclear materials license to include 233U.

The U.S.

Geological Survey (USGS) is a Federal bureau within the Department of the Interior and employs approximately 10,000 persons with an annual budget of about $500 million.

Special nuclear materials are used as tracer elements in several projects-within the Geologic and Water Resources Divisions _of the USGS.

The Director of the USGS is officially the license holder and is authorized to represent the bureau in matters of decommissioning financing.

It is the intent of the USGS to obtain funds in a timely manner for proper decommissioning of the facilities covered by the above license at such time an they are no longer needed.

The facilities where the 235U will be used are located in Room 1B307 in the USGS National Center in Reston, Virginia.

The total estimated cost of the decommissioning is $150,000.
