This refers to the resident safety inspection conducted by hiessrs,11. Ilichenholz and
P. Ilarris of this office on October 25 - November 28,1992, at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear
Power Station, Vernon, Vermont. The preliminary results were discussed with hir. D. Reid
at the conclusion of the inspection. The inspection focused on issues important to public
health and safety, and consisted of performance observations, the conduct of control room
operations and maintenance, and independent verification including safety system status.
,
Overall, we concluded that the plant was operated safely. One violation involving the failure
to maintain minimum shift staffing for a shott period of time was not subject to enforcement
because you identified the problem and your corrective actions were timely and
comprehensive.
