SECW0YAH NPP - SEB C06NENTS ON TVA RESPONSE TO GEOSCIENCES BRANCH QUESTIONS DATED DECBMBER 17, 1979 We have reviewed TVA's response to the GeoscienceS Branch questions 362.14 thru 362.16, dated December 19,1979.. We find the prot; ram proposed by the applicant generally acceptable. However, we like to identify some specific coments on question 362.14. as follows:

1. The work identified in item (2.a) should use the g-value related to .

the site specific spectra (84% seismic-spectra) utilized during the recent seismic re-evaluation effort.

2. The applicant should consider and address the potential and effects of differential settlement and possible domino-effect failure of the piles in the evaluation of tho work identified in item (2.b).

3. Provide the evaluation that justified your statement in item (2.d) concerning "nogligible settlement" for the condition uhcre you consider these structures supported on soil without,the pele system.

4. Clatify the difference between item (3) and item (2.a).

5. We expect that item 4 needs to be executed. in its entirety to make any pertion of it effective in the justification of the adequacy of these in-place pile systens.
