SUBJECT: NRC Inspection Report No. 50-293/92-24

,

An unannounced safety I spection of the radiological controls program at your facility was

conducted by Messrs. D. Mann and J. Noggle on November 2 - 5, 1992. The inspection

findings were discussed with member 3 of your staff on November 5,1992.

Areas reviewed during the inspection were important b health and safety and are discussed in'

the enclosed inspection report. These areas included review of: audits and surveillances,

collective personnel exposure status, outage radiological contr-Is, and the implementation of the

internal and external exposure radiological programs during mid-cycle outage conditions.

Overall, the station demonstrated very good performance in the areas inspected. However,

weaknesses were identified in the lack of posting of the spent fuel pool to warn against the -

inadvertent withdrawal of accessible high radiation sources stored in the pool, staffing of the

naintenance planning section responsible for maintaining radiation exposures as low as

reasonably achievable, and following procedures for issuing Radiation Work Permits. Within-

the scope of this inspectior., othet than the weaknesses identified above, no safety concerns or

violations of regulatory requirements were identified.
