Dear Mrs. Suchs:

Your letter of inquiry to President Carter regarding your concerns about possible radiation hazards at Three Mile Island has been forwarded to the Nuclear i

Regulatory Commis.; ion for response.

I regret that this response to your letter has been delayed.

Commission activities following the accident and its conse--

quences have prevented us from responding to you as promptly as we would have liked to.

i I can understand your anxiety about possible radiation exposure from Three Mile Island because of your stop over near Middletown on March 31, 1979.

I am enclosing for your information the summary of a report that specifically addresses the question you asked about any health effects that may result from radiation exposure caused by the accident. The report was written by an Interagency Task Force from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and the Environmental Protection Agency. You will note that the radiation dose received by the general pub'ic should not be a cause for health concerns. Also, low-level radiation is-not a cause of diarrhea.

l The complete radiation exposure report, entitled " Population Dose and Health Impact of the Accident at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station" (NUREG-0578),

is available for $3.50 from the following address:
