I am pleased to reply to your letter of April 12, 1970, expmssing opposition to beginning operation of the Nuclear Generating Plant at Monticello, Minnesota.
In regard to your concem about the effect of tritium, I believe that conprehensive infomation on this subject pmsented at hearing) on the envimnmental effects of pmducing electric power recently held by the Joint Conraittee on Atoc:1c Energy will be of interest to you.
I am enclosing a print of Part 1 of these hearings.
Conrnissioner heos J. Thonpson's testimony beginning on page 175 of this print discusses our review of applicationa for nuclear power plant licenses, arxi provides sone backgmurxi infornation on the establishment of limits for the release of radioactivity fmm nuclear plants. Beginning on page 238, Conraissioner Clamnce E. Larson discusses the biological effects of radiation as well as the effects of releases of heated water fIun nuclear plants.
You also expressed concern about transporting and storing radioactive wastes, on page 337 of the enclosed Joint Cocruittee on Atomic Energy i
