Dear Mr. Denton:

The purpose of this letter is to further clarify the scope of the Fog Monitoring Program which is required by the Environmental Protection Plan, Section 4.4.

My letters of October 2, 1984 and January 31, 1985 described our schedule for implementing the program, including the visual observation phase of the program which has been in progress since September, 1984. This phase of the program consists of visual observation monitoring of the cooling towers and fogging events.

Since severe fogging events are not expected until fall, we are currently scheduled to provide visiometer and surface water temperature monitoring by September 1, 1985. This portion of the program, in addition to the visual observations will comprise the complete Operational Fog Monitoring Program which will continue until one year after startup and continued operation of Unit 2.

Duke Power feels this schedule fully meets the intent of the Environmental Protection Plan for fog monitoring.
