Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362 Review of Safety Related Valves San Onofre Nuclear Generating Sta+ ion Units 2 and 3 This letter is to inform the NRC of a delay in the review or safety related valves at San Onofre Units 2 and 3.
I By letter to the NRC dated November _ 6, 1991, SCE provided the root cause evaluation of damage identified in one of the WKM Main-Steam Isolation Valves (MSIVs) at San Onofre Unit 2.
This letter also deuribed modifications, which were implementto during the Units 2 and 3 Cycle 6 refueling outages, to eliminate the possibility of future damage to the MSIVs.
Additionally, in the November 6,1991, letter SCE committed to perform a review of the de.;ign of all WKM valves used in safety related applications and determine if they are subject to similar failure modes. At that time it was expected that this review would be completed by November 1,1992. However, completion of this review has been delayed due to other conflicting engineering activities; in particular, the intensive review of the inservice testing program and the performance of design basis analyses for motor operated valves.
It is now expected that this review will be completed by April 1,
1993.
Appropriate corrective action will be taken if required by the outcome of this review.
