Docket Nos. 50-277/50-278 Attachment to Monthly Operating Report for March, 1985 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Narrative Summary of Operating Experiences March, 1985 UNIT 2 1

The Refueling / Pipe Replacement outage continued throughout the month of March.

Unit 2 is expected to return to service in late May.

All small bore pipe welds needed to support vessel fill are complete.

Sixty of 531 small bore pipe welds remain to be completed.

The

'A' and

'B' recirculation pump seals have been installed; the main steam drain valves have been replaced; the four y

recirculation valves have been reassembled; and the Residual Heat Removal valve which leaked during the primary recirculation pipe

}

flush has been repaired.

UNIT 3 On March 1, following repair of a drywell airlock door seal, unit startup was delayed due to a scram caused by low vacuum on the 3A m.

condencer.

The low vacuum resulted from a missing plug in a relief valve on the 2A feedwater heater.

A metal plug was insta11r.d, several minor vacuum leaks were repaired and the unit was returned to service that same day.

Unit operation was y

limited to 90% power throughout the month due to high offgas activity.

On March 9, load was reduced to 55% power for 43 hours4.976852e-4 days
0.0119 hours
7.109788e-5 weeks
1.63615e-5 months
to accommodate control rod pattern adjustment and helium leak testing of condenser waterboxes.

Two small leaks were located and repaired.

a Unit-3 is in power coastdown and removal of the fifth stage q[.

feedwater heaters is tentatively scheduled for 4/12/85.

This P

will maximize power output from Unit 3 during its remaining power s

.coastdown operation to a refueling outage expected to begin in 9

late May.
