THE CATHOUC UNIVERSITY OFAMEPJCA WASHINGTON D.C. 20064 DEPAR h1ENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING April 19, 1985 Mr. Harold R. Denton Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Denton:

This is to inform you of the status of the Catholic University AGN-201 nuclear reactor (License No. R-31, Docket No.

50-77) and also to request a modification to our technical specifications.

The reactor is in a continued shut-down mode with the fuel-bearing control rods removed from the reactor. The control rods are stored in a locked facility seperate from the reactor. The fuel core is in the reactor with the water shield in place. Our plan is to keep the reactor in this status pending reactor use for a research project.

Enclosed are revisions to the technical specifications.

Sincerely yours, k ,
