Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362 Transfer of Two Fuel Assemblies through the Transfer Tube San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station i Units 2 and 3 j Southern California Edison (Edison) is submitting this letter, as committed in a telephone call on May 9, 1996, to provide dose calculations and heat removal ,
calculations for transferring two irradiated fuel assemblies through the i transfer tube at the same time. Both calculations are enclosed for your )
information. !
The calculations show there is a significant margin of safety for both dose rate and heat removal. Edison will use these calculations as the basis for changing the current. wording in the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report which only refers to "a fuel assembly." The new wording will clearly indicate that two irradiated fuel assemblies may be transferred through the transfer tube at the same time.
