Director, Division of Rules and Records Office of Administration U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

[

Dear Mr. Felton:

[r This letter is to request the NRC's consideration of the t

establishment of a local Public Document Room in Austin,

{

Texas.

I understand that Mr. Hancock, the Director of the I

Electric Utility for the City of Austin, has been in contact E

with Mr. Siedle in Arlington with the NRC and Ms. Souder in E

your division concerning this matter, and their sugg*estion was that we communicate wath your office concerning our desire for a local Public Document Room.

j i

My interest in establishing a Public Document Room in E

Austin, Texas centers around the need to be open and com=unicative

[...,L,

with the public with respect to the construction and operation J

of a nuclear facility. Austin is the academic center for the E-i.-

University of Texas and its.80,000 students, as well as being F:

i the Capital of the State of Texas. As a municipally-owned

[

electric utility system, the City of Austin experiences an unusual public involvement in utility ma :ers.

The City of Austin has a very excellent professional ary staff, and we would be very pleased to provide the s.

I feel that the City of Austin is unique in that it has been YTh;4..f extremely active, from a public point of view, with respect to I' '.$' 5 'M ",,
