OPERATIONS SUMARY The Unf* has been in cold shutdown the entire month by order of the NRC. The core was cooled by the Decay Heat Removal System. The primary was partially

-drained to permit eddy current testing of the OTSGs and the secondary side of the OTSGs was partially drained to permit EFW system modifications.

The following major maintenance work items were completed during the month:

OTSGs 'RC-H-1A/B - During the month of December, eddy current testing of OTSG tubes progressed. The A" OTSG inspections to date showed 266 tubes with greater than 40% thru wall (8 x 1 probe).

100% tube inspection is still in progress on the "A" OTSG and is expected to be completed in January. The "B" 0TSG eddy current testing is complete with inspection results showing 33 tubes with greater than 40% thru wall (8 x 1 probe). Work on the "B" OTSG is still in progress with the removal of three (3) stuck eddy current test probes.

This work will continue in January and the three (3) tubes will be re-inspected. Preparations for tube plugging and stabilizing are in progress with the qualification of welders.

Plugging and stabilizing of tubes is expected to commence in January.

MAKE-UP & PURIFICATION PUMP MU-P-1A - Work continued on pump MU-P-1A (high motor current readings problem) in December. The motor / speed increaser coupling was aligned and the pump test run. All inspection results' ara being evaluated.

INTERMEDIATE CLOSED COOLING WATER COOLER IC-C-1B - Cooler IC-C-1B was opened for inspection during the month of December.

The tubes were cleaned and leak checked, and coatings and anodes were inspected. All inspections were satisfactory and the cooler was closed.

INTERMEDIATE CLOSED COOLING WATER COOLER IC-C-1A - Cooler IC-C-1A was opened for inspection and installation of magnesium anodes. The end covers were removed, tubes cleaned, and tio anode holder fabricated. The installation of the magnesium anodes, waterbox coal tar epoxy and Belzona compound installation on the tube sheet will continue in January. A leak check was performed satisfactorily with no indication of leaking tubes present.

NUCLEAR SERVICE CLOSED COOLING WATER PUMP NS-P-1A - Pump NS-P-1A was disassembled for mechanical seal installation during the month. The pump internals were removed and overhauled, mechanical seals installed and the pump was reassembled and installed in the casing. The coupling was aligned to the motor and test run.

IST testing was satisfactory and all work is complete.

MOVATS VALVE TESTING - Motor Operated Valve Analysis and Testing System (MDVATS) commenced in December with 22 valves tested. Testing results require follow-up repair action that will start in January.

PRESSURIZER CODE SAFETY VALVE RC-RV-1A - Relief valve RC-RV-1A was removed from the system for shipment to Wyle Lab for set point verification. The spare valve was installed in the system. All work was completed.

Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a technical l

specification change or other license amendment?

1 If answer is yes, in general, what will these be?

If answer is no, has the reload fuel design and core configuration been reviewed by your Plant Safety Review Committee to determine whether any unreviewed safety questions are associated with the core reload (Ref. 10 CFR Section 50 59)?

I If no such review has taken place, when is it scheduled?

Amendment No. 50, Cycle 5 reload, was approved on 3-16-79 5

Scheduled date(s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information:

l 6.

Important licensing considerations associated with refueling, e.g. new or different fuel design or supplier, unreviewed design or performance analysis methods, significant changes in fuel design, new operating procedures:

N/A 7

The number of fuel assemblies (a) in the core, and (b) in the spent fuel storage pool:

(a) 177 (b) 208 8.

The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity and the size of l

any increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned,'in number of fuel assemblies:

The present licensed capacity is 752. There are no planned increases at this time.

9 The projected date of the last refueling that can be discharged to the spent l

fuel pool assuming the present licensed capacity:
