January 11, 1985 Mr. Thomas T. Martin, Director Division of Engineering and Technical Programs U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406
Dear Mr. Mar:
in:
Subject:
Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Additional Response to IE Inspection No. 50-219/84-21 This letter is in response to your letter of November 6,1984 which forwarded IE Inspection No. 50-219/84-21 conducted on July 23-27, 1984 by Mr.
A. Krasopoulos of your staff. By my letter dated December 11, 1984, GPU Nuclear provided information recpested in the inspection report with the exception of one item. The purpose of this letter is to provide this additional information.
While conducting a followup of previous inspection findings, Mr.
Krasopoulos requested the written report which identified the electrical equipment protected from fire protection system discharges and also the type of protection pInvided. This information is required to close Unresolved Item (50-219/82-07-01).
The details relating to this unresolved item are contained within a laIger report entitled, "0yster Creek Winter 1981-82 Outage Maintenance and Construction Technical Report". The section which deals with the sealing of electrical equipment consists of over 300 pages of information. The scope of the work included the replacing of gaskets on plant instrumentation, motor operated valves, and replacing deteriorated flexible conduit connections to motors and various equipment on Reactor Building elevation 23' and 51'.
In addition the job included the sealing of conduits, instrmentation, terminal boxes, floor penetrations, solenoid operated valves, etc. throughout the Reactor Building.
In all, over several hundred pieces of electrical equipment were inspected and sealed as necessary.
GPUN is recommending that rather than submit this voluminous report for Mr. Krasopoulos' review, it is more practical for Mr. Krasopoulos to go over this report on his next inspection tour of Oyster Creek.
