For further information contact:
Al Adams (217) 424-6400 NEWS RELEASE POWER DECATUR, IL., October 14, 1983 -- Illinois Power Company today officially announced the cancellation of Unit 2 at the Clinton nuclear power station.
The company has not perform'ed any additional work toward completion of Clinton 2 since 1977.
Negotiations are now underway to cancel contracts pertaining to completion of Unit 2.
The present investment in work completed, plus cancellation costs for Unit 2, on a net after-tax cost to Illinois Power Company is estimated to be between $16 million and S22 million.
The company intends to seek approval to amortize these costs over a period of years.
In announcing the cancellation the company cited the fact that its projected sales of electricity indicate that no replacement or additional generating unit's will be needed after Clinton Unit 1 comes on line until sometime in the 1990s.
Clinton Unit 1 is now 81 percent complete with commercial operation scheduled for 1986..
