Dear Sir:

By letter dated April 7, 1995, your office acknowledged our intent to achieve compliance with Appendix R and to resolve the Thermo-Leg issue by implementing modifications affecting the_ Unit 1 Auxiliary Building Pipe Chase, the Unit 2 Motor Driven Auxiliary Feedwater Room, and the Unit I Train B Switchgear Room.

These modifications were scheduled to be completed during the end of cycle 11 (1997) for both units.

The proposed modifications would permit the complete removal of the Thermo-Lag insulation at the McGuire site.

As requested by Generic Letter 92-08, this letter hereby-confirms the complete removal of Thermo-Lag' Fire Barrier

-material from McGuire Nuclear Station ahead of our previous

commitment date.

Modifications necessary to compensate for the initial removal of Thermo-Lag have been implemented.

O Documentation related to the resolution of the concern I O' with Thermo-Lag Fire Barrier systems will be retained for future NRC audits or inspections.
