March 21, 1985 Mr. John A. Zwolinski, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 5 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Zwolinski:

Subject:

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Schedular Extension Request for Submittal of Surveillance Capsule Analyses Results In accordance with the provisions of Appendix H (Section III.A) of 10CFR50, GPUN hereby requests a schedular extension for submitting the test results of the No. 2 surveillance capsule which was removed from the Oyster Creek reactor vessel on March 28, 1984. Appendix H of 10CFR50 requires submittal of the test results within one year after capsule withdrawal, unless an extension is granted by the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.

The schedular extension request is necessitated by a delayed shipment of the capsule to a testing laboratory due to scheduling conflicts mainly with receipt of spent fuel shipments at Oyster Creek from West Valley, New York.

The delay will have no technical effect on the operation of Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station during the current fuel cycle. Oyster Creek Technical Specification (Section 3.3.A(iv)) requires GPU4 to generate new P-T curves for operation beyond 10 effective full power years (EFPY). Oyster Creek will reach 10 CFPY during Cycle XI operation.

It is expected at this time that Cycle XI operation will start in the last quarter of calender year 1986.
