Dear Mr. Zugger:

RE:

Donald C. Cook Huclear Plant NPDES Permit No, MI 0005827 Steam Generator Blowdown On January 2,1985, Unit #2 steam generator, which had been in " wet layup" during an outage period, was being drained through the blowdown system which discharges to Lake Michigan via the plant intake forebay.

Required sampling conducted at 2210 hours0.0256 days
0.614 hours
0.00365 weeks
8.40905e-4 months
was found to have a suspended solids concentration of 329.6 PPM.

The sample point is between the second and third of three demineralizers and the final concentration was probably somewhat lower.

The solids concentration level was determined from a sample taken early in the draining process and would likely have indicated a suspended solids concentration higher than the average concentration during the entire draining process.

Non-reporting of the exceedance was discovered when the monthly DMR report was being prepared and was an inadvertant oversight.

A required daily sample of Unit #1 steam generator blowdown for suspended solids was missed on January 12, 1985.

The missed sample was most likely due to intermittent use of the blowdown system while preparing the unit for

" wet layup."

Very truly yours, R. C. Meng
