$UPPLY December 31,1984 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. 3. R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Subject:
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos.1 & 2; Dockets Nos. 50-317 and 50-318 Detailed Control Room Design Review Gentlemen:
Our detailed control room design review has been performed as described in our program plan submitted to you on September 1,1983 and modified to account for the comments of your staff. These comments were provided to us as an enclosure to your letter of December 30,1983.
A summary report of the results of our detailed control room design review is enclosed. This document was prepared for us by our human factors consultant. All of the deficiencies identified in the report are included in our system for documenting, tracking, and resolving human engineering discrepancies (HEDs).
A description of the procedure used to prioritize and schedule the correction of identified discrepancies is provided as an attachment to this letter. Also attached are computer-generated reports which list every HED identified in the course of our review. For each discrepancy which affects safety-related functions or which has been conservatively assessed as having a potential to significantly impact upon safety, status and current schedule commitments are provided. Status and schedule information on non-safety-significant discrepancies is provided for information only.
In the course of the in-progress audit of our program, conducted by the NRC at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant site between November 27 and November 30, 1984 we agreed to supplement our summary report by providing clarification of certain aspects of our program and a description of various changes made to our program to address the Staff's comments. Due to scope of this information request and the limited time available before the scheduled report submittal date, it was agreed that this information should be provided in a separate supplement to our summary report. This supplement will be submitted by April 5,1985.
